Afterword
Afterwords are quietly tough. Hey there, it’s Aborn.
As always, I struggle with what to write in an afterword.
So, I decided to write about my struggles with afterwords in the afterword.
“What, you don’t know what to write? Just talk about the work’s explanation or behind-the-scenes stuff,” you say? You’re absolutely right.
But for me, it’s hard. I don’t have anything to explain… and no behind-the-scenes stuff either…
The most I’ve got is that in Volume 2, I threw in some world-breaking secret setting (my editor told me something like, “Make sure it doesn’t get found out,” lol).
It’s not just about what to write.
There’s also the struggle of what kind of character I should be or what vibe I should go for…?
“Just write as yourself, duh,” you say? That’s what’s hard.
I’m a very normal, serious person. If I go as myself, I can only write the most boring stuff. Sorry, I’m not actually serious. I’m pretty careless and sloppy. Probably a serious-type slacker. I kinda like that about myself. Freshly made friends often say, “You’re so serious,” but once we get closer, they always say, “I’ve never met a guy like you (in a bad way).”
The phrase I’ve heard most in my life is, “I never thought you were that kind of guy.”
I’m dead serious. I’ve been hearing it since elementary school. I’m just living my life normally, you know!
This is turning from an afterword struggle into a life struggle. Let’s get back on track.
I reread my past afterwords and was shocked, thinking, “These are so normal.” So, I decided to study afterwords and recently read through all the ones in the light novels I have at home (I’m usually the type who skips afterwords).
Honestly, it wasn’t helpful at all. They were all on too high a level.
But I also think this is a luxurious problem. Being able to write an afterword means I’m getting to publish a book…! That’s truly something to be grateful for.
Things are starting to wrap up nicely, so I’ll move to closing.
To my editor, thank you for Volume 4. This time, I think judging the story’s direction was especially tough. The focus we aimed for was different from before…
To Kanda Done-sensei, thank you as well. As I write this afterword, I’ve only seen the rough draft of the cover illustration, but the anticipation is unreal.
To the readers, thank you. I’m nothing but grateful that you’ve read Volume 4!
Well then, see ya~!
