Afterword
Greetings, everyone. It’s been a while—or perhaps this is our first meeting. I’m here to deliver my new work, Is It Okay to Get Serious If It’s My Stepsister? I’m Fuminori Teshima.
Yes! As the title suggests, this is a stepsister rom-com!
This year marks my eighteenth year as a writer, but believe it or not, I’ve never written a modern story without battles or magic. On top of that, while I’ve included sisters or stepsisters in my works before, this is my first time making one the main focus.
So, this genre is full of firsts for me. Brainstorming with my editor, going back and forth over this and that, was quite an enjoyable time. It’s been a while since I’ve crafted a story so tentatively like this.
Looking back at the initial plot, Mahito, whose character was relatively set from the start, feels almost like a different person. Yuuri wasn’t nearly as much of a brocon or a secretly perverted character either.
The one whose character took the longest to pin down was Himemiya. She went from being a gag character to a sharp-tongued tsundere girl. It was literally the draft just before the final one when we settled on her current earnest, bangs-over-eyes persona, wasn’t it?
This might feel different from my usual style, but I hope you enjoy it.
By the way, I usually write a fantasy romantic comedy called I, a Demon Lord, Took a Slave Elf as My Wife, but How Do I Love Her? The twentieth volume is coming out, so look forward to that as well.
Now, my thanks to everyone who helped make this possible.
To my editor, A-sama, who patiently listened and gave all sorts of advice. To the illustrator, Kuro太-sama, who created delicate and wonderful illustrations. To everyone involved in cover design, proofreading, and publicity. To Takemitsu-sama and Asuka Kitora-sama, who drew fun promotional manga. To my kids, who helped with chores and cleaning here and there. And to you, who picked up this book—thank you!
