Otonari Asobi Volume 7 Afterword

Afterword

First and foremost, thank you for picking up Volume 7 of The Story of How a Beautiful Foreign Student Who Lives Next Door Started to Visit My House After I Helped a Lost Little Girl.

Also, to everyone involved in the creation of Volume 7, thank you for your continued support.

I apologize for repeating the same words every time, but thanks to all of you, we were able to release Volume 7.

Truly, thank you so much.

We’ve finally reached Volume 7…!

And the manga adaptation has begun, with the first volume of the comics released recently!

I’m genuinely thrilled that a work I wrote on a web novel site has grown this much.

If it gets an anime adaptation—that would make me even happier…! (lol)

Let me talk about the manga adaptation first—have you all read it?

It was serialized in advance on Nico Nico Manga, so many of you might have read it there, but as of writing this afterword, the number of favorites is just under 70,000!

The fact that so many people have read it is thanks to the wonderful composition and artwork by Pentagon-sensei, who is in charge of the manga, and the support of the editor for the manga adaptation.

Truly, Charl, Emma-chan, and the teachers have been drawn so adorably, and the content has been skillfully adapted for the manga medium while staying true to the original, so fans who love the original Otonari asobi will absolutely enjoy it.

If you haven’t read it yet or if you enjoyed it on Nico Nico Manga, please, please check out Volume 1 of the manga adaptation of Otonari asobi as well!

If the manga adaptation becomes popular, an anime adaptation might become even more realistic, or so I hope.

Now, back to the light novel—honestly, I never thought we’d make it this far.

Conceptually, this series still has plenty of room to continue, but as a commercial work, it could get canceled if it’s not popular enough.

The fact that we’re still going is all thanks to the fans who support the work.

Truly, thank you so much!

And above all, I owe it to the light novel’s editor, who has indulged my many whims, and to Midorikawa-sensei!

I believe I mentioned this in the afterword for Volume 1, but this work differs significantly from the web version in terms of development and even some settings.

As Neko Kuro, I believe that web novels and published books are similar yet distinct, so I aim to write in a way that suits web novel sites for the web version and suits books for the published version. But beyond that, when writing on the web novel site, I thought, “This development would be the best for this work. It would make it even better,” and those ideas were implemented in the published version.

Thanks to that, I believe it’s become a work that’s loved by all of you, but none of it would have been possible without the editor’s approval.

This has significantly shaped the fate of Otonari asobi as a work.

The fact that we can proudly deliver Otonari asobi to fans is thanks to the editor indulging Neko Kuro’s many whims.

Well, yeah… Neko Kuro has some pretty extreme ideas and fixations, and while I leave a lot to others’ discretion, I absolutely won’t compromise on parts I think “This is critical to its popularity…!” So, I’m probably a troublesome author for editors. (lol)

Of course, leaving things to others isn’t out of negligence—it’s because I think, “This part is better left to the professionals in that field.”

Some people might think, “This author never interfered before, but now they’re suddenly so particular!?” (lol)

It’s just that, in Neko Kuro’s mind, there’s a clear line between what I’ll comment on and what I won’t. (lol)

So, with someone who sincerely engages with the parts I’m particular about, we’re able to deliver an even better Otonari asobi to all of you!

And—and as I always tell you, Otonari asobi is supported by Midorikawa-sensei’s wonderful illustrations.

The incredibly lovely character designs, stunning cover art, frontispieces, and insert illustrations have drawn so much interest to the work.

Thank you so much for always drawing such wonderful illustrations…!

Now, let’s touch on the main story. Actually, Livi, who appeared in Volume 6, was Charl’s childhood friend…!

…Yes, most of you probably figured that out in Volume 6. (lol)

In the web version, her name was mentioned when Charl talked to Akihito, so for those who read the web version, it was probably like, “Finally, she’s here…!” similar to when Karin appeared.

This girl, who adores Charl, is innocent, playful for her age, kind, and cute.

She’s bright, energetic, and a bit mischievous, so if she appears again, she’ll likely shake things up for Akihito and Charl.

Livi seems to have taken quite a liking to Akihito as well as Charl, so she might cling to both of them a lot…!

As for Charl, she’s not just clinging to Akihito in a sweet way—she wants to cling to him in a more mature way too, but that’s not going so well right now.

If we can release Volume 8, her pent-up desires might just explode—something like that could happen. (lol)

It seems she’s found some new approach with Akihito, so it might feel different from before.

I hope you’ll look forward to that as well.

As for Emma-chan, she’s still the same as ever, loving to cling to Akihito and sticking to him constantly.

But she also loves clinging to her mother, acting on her whims.

With Charl… since they’ve been together for so long and she used to cling to her like a big sister, Charl’s priority seems to have dropped for Emma-chan.

With her mother, whom she couldn’t cling to for a long time, and her new clinging target, Akihito, she’s distracted by them.

But if Charl’s not around, Emma-chan will look for her, so she’s still far from growing out of her sister attachment.

So, even with new characters appearing, the relationship between the three hasn’t changed much.

After all, this story revolves around Akihito, Charl, and Emma-chan, so it will continue to focus on them.

That said, changes in relationships with those around them—might happen.

If there’s a Volume 8, it’ll likely cover the school trip.

There’s a feeling that new encounters might happen there…?

What will happen, I wonder…!

With that, I hope we can meet again in Volume 8!

Once again, thank you so much for picking up Volume 7 of Otonari asobi!

See you in the next volume, bye-bye!
